Daily Queen Devotional Day 11: Perfect Bondage

We think back to our bondage givers and call them now our Egyptian lovers. We say our treatment wasn’t as bad because they at least fed us. We claim we had more liberty in our lives back when we could freely walk with our chains. Slavery treated us badly enough to make us want to change, but good enough to have us stay.

It was a perfect bondage. We were fed but never full. We had flexibility, but we didn’t have freedom.

The truth is, God gave us everything we needed but we didn’t like that freedom meant going to an unknown place. We couldn’t trust that we needed to trust in the substance that is things unseen. We couldn’t give up our slave masters because they proved they’d always treat us wrong. They treated us wrongly, but at least we could depend on slavery always being…slavery.

Queen, you can trust there is a better land for you even when you’ve never left Egypt, or Boston, or D.C, or Chicago. You can walk into perfect freedom, you just have to walk out of your perfect bondage.
